Three of our International Academy Students participate in the 2010 Summer Ambassador Program!
Congratulations Kai Bartlett, Joshua Winckel and Kelsy Morrison.
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
The Summer Ambassador Program is an opportunity for students ages 12-16 to set sail for two weeks—expanding their perspective of the world, immersing themselves in and contributing to different cultures, and practicing community building aboard the historic landmark schooner Roseway. During their expedition at sea, students will learn and practice seamanship and navigation as they operate and maintain the 137-foot schooner that is their home, as well as carrying out lessons in history, environmental responsibility, team-building, and language arts. Students will also engage in a small boat sailing program using Roseway’s 17-foot dories. They will be expected to serve as ambassadors of their home port in all the activities in which they participate, as well as be ambassadors for the World Ocean School. |

Please take the time to read this article in the June 13, 2009 Economist. The full article is attached below.
It talks about how America's schools are lagging behind the rest of the world with shorter school years and shorter school days. 
VIMSIA has extended the normal school day beginning 2009/2010 school year. Except for LA Casa and Half Day Primary, the school day is from 8:00 until 3:30. For a child going to school at VIMSIA from Full Day Primary through 12th grade, they will have received an additional 1.3 years of schooling!
