Our Spanish Infusion program begins in La Casa with our toddlers and is carried all the way through to 12th grade. In the La Casa and Montessori programs, we try to ensure that each classroom has one full time adult that is bi-lingual and focuses on speaking with all students in Spanish all day, every day- typically the Spanish Infusion Teacher's Assistant. In addition to this, beginning in Lower Elementary (1st year), the students get formal Spanish classes one to three times per week.

In 7th grade, when students enter into the Peter Gruber International Academy, they take IB Language II, which for our school is Spanish. These classes are divided by skill level and are held 4 to 5 times per week.

Our goal is that any student coming all the way through our school will be capable of successfully completing the Diploma Programme's High Level Spanish Course (basically a Spanish literature course).

We are so thrilled with the ongoing results of this program - students, staff and parents typically greet each other with "Hola" rather than "Hello" and "¿Como estas?" rather than "How are you?"

There is a plethora of information out there about the benefits of learning another language.  Here is just one example from The New York Times.
