URGENT VOLUNTEERS NEEDED AT HUMANE SOCIETY ST. THOMAS

PGIA students can earn CAS hours for this volunteering opportunity

URGENT THE ANIMALS NEED YOUR HELP!

Dear HSSTT Friends and Volunteers,

We need your help today and now more than ever!!!
Thank you so much for your continued support in helping us care for so many dogs and cats over the past 50+ years. As our organization continues to grow, we are looking for more volunteers to help us care for animals. Especially today and every day we are in need of volunteers to help walk, clean, enrich and socialize the animals. Can you please donate an hour or two today or any day, help us take care of our dogs & cats and provide them with a clean environment while they wait for their fur-ever homes.

Daily activities for volunteers include:

  • Walking dogs

  • Help in the cat house

  • Disinfect pet kennels

  • Sweep and mop floors

  • Groom, enrich and socialize

  • Data input

Volunteer shifts are anytime during the hours of 8:00am-4:30pm Sunday-Sunday! Must be at least 16 years old. Wear closed toed shoes, long pants and comfortable shirt that may get a little hairy…

Please note that we're open to the public during some of these shifts.

Thank you so much for all your support!

Can you please take me for a walk today? I promise I'll be the best dog ever because I deserve a "Second Chance"! Just a little more human touch and a few good-dog pets on the head go a long way.

Rep. Plaskett hosts Military Academy Day 3/17/20

On March 17th at 6:00pm at the Legislature on St Thomas, the office of Congresswoman Stacey Plaskett will be hosting an Academy Day seminar, which is intended to share information on the great opportunities afforded to students that qualify to attend US Military Academies like the fact that if you are accepted, your tuition and many other fees are paid for.
Please note that all students are welcome and not only seniors or JROTC students. These institutions are seeking well rounded students who have thrived academically but they also want that student to show leadership in sports and other activities outside of the classroom.

School Response to Coronavirus (COVID-19)

Please see the message bellow from Head of School, Michael Bornn, that was sent out to parents on Wednesday (3/4).

Coronavirus/COVID-19 is a real concern. At VIMSIA we are fully immersed in monitoring the virus.
We advise the following:

1. If you or your child has a fever do not come to school. Contact a health care provider via phone or telemedicine line and articulate to them your symptoms and seek an action plan. Do not leave your house until you have been given clearance from the medical provider.
2. Wash your hands frequently. Upon entering a classroom wash your hands.
3. Avoid crowded areas.
4. Masks do not prevent acquiring the virus, they are effective if one has the virus and are seeking to slow the spread.
5. Practice the Asian greeting Namaste, rather than a handshake.
 6. At school, we have increased our cleaning protocol to disinfect surface areas more thoroughly and frequently.
7. Hand-sanitizers have been placed in each classroom and elsewhere on campus.
8. Cover your mouth appropriately if you have to cough.

"Chasing Coral" presented by Rotary Club of St. Thomas Wed Mar 4

SKM_C25820022711110.jpg

Doug White, Environmental Chairperson for the Rotary Club of St. Thomas East cordially invites the public to attend the Club’s bi-weekly environmentally themed video presentation entitled Chasing Coral (1hr.29m) on Wednesday, March 4th, 2020 at 6:30 p.m.

“This environmental movie hopes to raise the community’s awareness of the major threat that the Climate Crisis and Global Warming pose for the survival of the ocean’s coral reefs,” states White.

In the film, divers, scientists and photographers from around the world mount an epic underwater campaign to document the disappearance of coral reefs.  The use of time-lapse photography allows viewers to see the bleaching and death of coral reefs, as it happens.  The film’s producers provide credible evidence in support of the belief that the primary cause of reef death is ocean warming caused by Climate Change/Global Warming.

The Rotary Club of St. Thomas East urges the pubic to learn more about the environmental issues as well as how we can all make a meaningful difference. Join us on Wednesday, March 4th at 6:30 p.m. in the Nazareth by the Sea Episcopal Church located in the Red Hook Plaza Building (formerly the hardware store space).

The public is invited to attend for FREE. Light food ($5.00/plate) and wine tickets ($5.00/glass) will be available for purchase throughout the event.
