The VIMSIA Volts bring energy, teamwork, and school spirit to every game! As proud members of the Inter-Island Interscholastic Athletic Association (IAA), our athletes compete with both public and private schools across St. Thomas and St. John.
Our program is designed to be inclusive, welcoming all students regardless of athletic ability. Any student in good academic standing with the desire to participate is encouraged to join.
Coaches prioritize teaching and guiding, while student-athletes are expected to approach the experience with openness and a willingness to learn.
Montessori Athletics (Grades 3–5)
At the Montessori Elementary level, all sports are coed and focus on participation, skill-building, and fun. Students gain a foundation in teamwork and healthy competition while discovering what they love to play.

Some students also take part in Sailing through local youth sailing clubs, representing VIMSIA spirit on the water!

Cross Country
VIMSIA proudly competes in Cross Country during the IAA Fall Sports Season, racing against schools from St. Thomas and St. John. Open to all interested runners in elementary, middle, and high school, Cross Country is a great way for students to challenge themselves, build endurance, and represent the Volts spirit.
Practices are held after school, with meets once a week for approximately five weeks. Race distances vary by age group, ensuring an appropriate challenge for every runner—from our youngest athletes to our high school competitors.
Awards are presented to both individual runners and school teams, celebrating effort, improvement, and achievement. The season typically runs from September through October.
Sailing
Our sailors train year-round and proudly represent the Volts in competitions across the Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. mainland.
All practices are held at the St. Thomas Yacht Club (STYC), where students develop advanced racing skills, seamanship, and teamwork on the water.
The VIMSIA Sailing Program is open to students in 7th grade and up, while younger sailors are encouraged to get started through the STYC Junior Sailing Program—a perfect introduction to the sport and the spirit of sailing.
This year-long program gives our high school sailors the opportunity to race against top teams from St. Thomas, St. Croix, the British Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico, as well as compete in stateside regattas.
Donations to the Sailing Team directly support travel for competitions, helping our athletes continue to represent VIMSIA at the highest level.
Watch our sailors in action!
