Who are we?
The Virgin Islands Montessori School and Peter Gruber International Academy (VIMSIA) is a nonprofit, 501(c)(3) independent school on the island of St. Thomas, USVI.
History, Mission, & Vision
It all begins with an idea.
In 1963, the concept of a Montessori school in the Virgin Islands captured the imagination and support of a group of St. Thomas parents.
A one-room building was built on a donated half-acre of land, and emerged in January 1964 with a preschool class of 12 students. Over the ensuing years, our school has grown steadily to meet the needs of our St. Thomas and St. John communities.
Today, our beautiful 12.0-acre campus offers instruction for toddlers through 12th grade and is accredited by Association Montessori International (AMI) for our Montessori Primary Classes and our International Academy (grades 6-12) is authorized by the International Baccalaureate Organization.
We are one of very few schools in the world that offer both the MYP and DP through the International Baccalaureate Organization.
Coupled with our Toddler, Primary and Elementary Montessori program, this makes VIMSIA one of a few, very rare, schools anywhere in the world with this combination or pedagogies.
