New Sailors Finish the Semester in Style

This past Wednesday, parents joined their children as crew of sailing boats at the Saint Thomas Sailing Center.  It was a festive graduation day, celebrating the successful launch of the Volts Wednesday sailing program and the accomplishments of the student sailors. Students learned how to captain and sail the hobie cats and also got experience on the larger IC 24 sail boats. PGIA and the Saint Thomas Sailing School launched this exciting new program this year under the suggestion and organization by science teacher Bill Jordan.

“In June I took a sailing curse with my son, and it was too much fun to keep to myself,” said Mr. Jordan.

Special thanks to Ms. Katie Martin for chaperoning the sailors, and to Bobby and Spencer, our sailing club instructors!

A few quotes from student sailors:

"I’ve never been one for trying new things, but I’m really glad I did this”

“It was an amazing experience!”

“This really got me out of my comfort zone!”

“I learned a lot about sailing, thank you to Spencer and the other coaches.”
