Celebrating Montessori Education Week

Every year the last week of February is designated for “Montessori Education Week” worldwide. This is when we take time to celebrate Maria Montessori and the educational approach she developed, growing our appreciation for the uniqueness of the Montessori classroom and the benefits it offers our children.

The week of February 26nd - March 1st will be our time to share educational videos, photos, articles, and anecdotes to increase your knowledge and love of all things Montessori! You decided to come here because of your appreciation of Montessori ideas, our community, or maybe it’s just closer to you than Antilles!

No matter your reason: you are here with us, and we want to encourage you to continue to get to know this incredible method of education your child/ren are receiving.

We’ll kick off with a link to the American Montessori Society “What is Montessori” page to deepen your understanding of Montessori. You can read more about the Montessori method, its core components, and terminology. AMS also has a curated collection of Montessori articles from their publication Montessori Life available on their website. These articles cover everything from parenting to supporting children with special needs to Montessori education in the public sphere.

Another easy resource is the TED Talk above, entitled “You Might Be A Montessorian.”

“The child of this age sets out to do a certain task, perhaps an absurd one to adult reasoning, but this matters not at all; he must carry out the activity to its conclusion...Adults therefore should not interfere to stop any childish activity however absurd, so long as it is not too dangerous to life and limb! The child must carry out his cycle of activity.”
