What makes a good persuasive essay?

What makes a good persuasive essay? That’s the question that students in Grades 4 and 5 have been working to answer. Using an essay structure, they have been studying persuasive writing and creating thesis statements to voice an opinion about something.  First, students thought of three reasons to support their thesis and evidence to elaborate on their reasons. Then they wrote many essays throughout the unit, and chose one to publish and present to their intended audience. They revised and edited their work with a peer.

The following students wanted their essays and presentations to be shared with the VIMSIA community. At these grade levels, we focus less on perfection and more on growing and honing our writing skills, and doing our best to put those skills into the writing piece.
