Volts Volleyball Corner!

Hey Volts community! Volleyball season is winding down, but not without celebrating our team's success. This week, the varsity boys beat All-Saints 3-0, and the girls scored a big win against our chief rival, Antilles, 3-1. This Friday and Saturday are big days as both our boys and girls varsity teams are in action at the MCM center. Our middle school girls team will also be playing All-Saints on Saturday for a place in the playoffs. Come on out and support our Volts teams this weekend!

As volleyball season is ending, this means we are getting started with basketball and track and field. Please be posted regarding the practice schedule. I have been hearing from parents about the desire to field teams for our elementary school students. This is entirely possible, but not without your help. If you know of anyone who can help out on a volunteer basis to coach track and field or basketball for our fourth and fifth graders, please contact me - wfranz@vimsia.org. We can do this, but we need coaches!

JV Girls Volleyball Wins Antilles Tournament

Last weekend the VIMSIA Volts JV Girls Volleyball team bumped, set and spiked their way to a big win in the 2019 Antilles JV Volleyball tournament. Our JV Girls Volleyball team defended their 2018 title - winning the tournament for the second year in a row. 8th grader Alivia Arroyo was named tournament MVP. Congratulations to Alivia Arroyo, Natalia Figueroa, Layla Howard, Mya Vigilant, Devin DeGannes, Nyala Burke, Zia Gibbs, Ariana Tyson, Destiny Donastorg, Aysia Frett, Natasha Webster, and Cassidy Caines. Our JV Girls Volleyball team did an excellent job representing VIMSIA!

Volts Volleyball - JV Boys Undefeated

A quick update from Coach Gibbs on the stellar performance of our JV boys volleyball players so far this season.

So far this year we have beaten Eudora Kean twice, CAHS (last years champs) once, and BCB once. Each match is a best of three "sets".   We lost our first set to Eudora Kean, but won the next two, to win the match. We have not lost a set since and are undefeated...so far.....in the league! We play all teams once more, and Antilles twice, but so far...we are the team to beat!

Proud of these boys!

Coach Mitch Gibbs

Go Volts: Varsity Boys Volleyball, Great Season Start Against Kean

I was so pleased to watch VIMSIA's first varsity boys volleyball game in at least 4 years!  For some reason, we have had many years without enough interest to field a team, but this year we are coming on strong with both JV and Varsity Boys teams.

Coach Figueroa has done a fine job of getting these great athletes prepared.  While they did not pull out a full win, they were very competitive against a seasoned - very big -  public high school team, that took the division last year.  They lost the first two sets by narrow margins (28-26; 25-17), won the third (23-25) but gave up the fourth (25-6).

This young team is athletic - they are coordinated and quick, they work well together on the court.  They will quickly improve throughout the season and be a contender.  My prediction.  Guess we'll see!
